Restrepia cloesii

Restrepia cloesii Luer

Here we have a species very similar to R. brachypus or superficially a small form of R. falkenbergii Rchb.f. This extremely rare species is known to only occur in western Peru, and was only discovered in 1993 and named by Dr Luer in 1996.

Its yellow blooms with brown maroon stripes, are normally quite a bit smaller than R. brachypus only reaching 20mm long. Where as the blooms on R. brachypus reach between 22-37mm long. R. cloesii can be easily separated from R. brachypus by its slim, pandurate lip and smaller flowers.
