The orchid family is the largest of all the flowering plant families. Even larger than the Daisy family Asteraceae. Total orchid species numbers are estimated to be as high as 33,000 globally.
In due course it may be this number will be reduced. But then again many new orchid species discoveries are being made regularly every year in many parts of the world. Exact numbers globally, taking into account there are still many taxonomic problems to be sorted through, probably wont be known for sure for some years to come.
However, in the mean time there are hundreds of already known species for us to enjoy, and new discoveries are brought to our attention regularly. Furthering our delight even more.
Below are a mere selection of what the Orchid family has to offer, not to be found in the other Oasis genera specific galleries.
