Laelia gouldiana Rchb.f.
The large purple blooms of this species can not be missed borne at the top of an erect raceme up to 70cm long. Each bloom reaches between 6-10cm wide and only about 3-6 flowers are produced. It inhabits the cool, dry mountains in the state of Hidalgo, Mexico.
