The Maxillaria Gallery

Maxillaria scorpioidea Kranzl.

A dwarf, rambling species from Mexico to Western El Salvador, Costa Rica and Western Panama, and into Brazil and Ecuador. It has some of the slowest developing flowers I have observed from any orchid genus. However, when they finally open they start off as a apple green colour, fading to yellow-green after about 7-10 days and then they continue to last for another 2 weeks or so. It is a very slow grower and needs protection in winter in colder areas.
